Politically Correct But Spiritually
&
Morally Incorrect ~ The Splendour of Truth!
(Ceart go
polaitiúil, ach míbhéasach go
spioradáltiúil agus go morálta)

The Atlantic Archipelago
Oileánrach an Atlantaigh
I write this to the
people of Ireland
and the United Kingdom as an Anglo-Irish person, a visionary,
ordained metaphysical minister and one who is so proud of my heritage and as a human being
who passionately cares for my country (The Atlantic Archipelago) and
the world and
its peoples and who holds
a worry for us all for the future to which our leaders are
blind and
deaf and have let us down. I have printed it here out of the United
Kingdom expressing my human thought because I can at the moment
but who knows for how long?! I ask that you bring it to to attention of
everyone you know. You may not agree with what I say but at least I
hope you defend my right to say it within my civil liberty to do so! It is said that sex, politics and religion are three things you
should never discuss in polite company and three things that should
never be mixed.
Well, I am not here to be polite or indeed politically correct. I am
here to be frank and make no apologies.
I felt I had to stand
up and say the
following as I could not
remain
silent any longer and feel it is my duty to do so as each of us has a
responsibility to follow our conscience to uphold our values, beliefs
and
positive vision and particularly given who I am and knowing the amount
of people this will reach...
I believe it is urgent that we
have
positive, radical political change and shift here in Britain
immediately where
many people
feel
threatened, have become disillusioned, harbour silent resentment, are
culturally illiterate and
spiritually adrift effecting the very nature of our society mostly
because of the phenomenon of multiculturalism and positive
discrimination which is fracturing our society and de-culturalising us.
In the name of multiculturalism, the indigenous cultures of Britain and
Ireland have been shamed, belittled and ignored. For too long serious
issues such as this have been hidden behind the banner of
multiculturalism. The word itself has been used as a mantra to silence
awkward comment.
Multiculturalism IS a development that impoverishes us
all and connected in with it is the
timeless myth
of terrestrial paradise and the quest for utopia which is so pushed on
us and woven into the fabrics of our lives by
elements of government and society in this way that many of us rarely
stand back to questions
some of its assumptions and in not doing so, we are colluding in it. Muticulturalism is
unethical and we
have been
quangoed!
This blind allegiance to "multiculturalism", in which decisions are
accepted because the principle of "just following orders" exceeds the
individual's obligation to evaluate and make principled decisions.
When people feel little or no sense of identity with their nation, they
will tend to display political and social apathy toward the state.
Under those conditions, democratic participation will tend to decline,
which in turn diminishes the legitimacy of the elected government
(feels familiar?).
Being Utopian is the
Promethean
impulse
to remake human nature and society by the sheer exertion of human will
and through social engineering and does
not work nor will it work in the way it is being done without massive
shift and global change and the sincere involvement of ALL others which
I sincerely hope happens over time.
Indeed, we are
not
ready for multiculturalism (if that is the right word) on our own yet
until there is this global shift and then those that are being
introduced to it locally: legitimate newcomers coming into these
islands as well
as those that are already here from whenever are
devoid of
prejudices and intolerances
themselves and more than that are prepared to build and hold a shared
vision!! Before that can
really happen and after this global shift, the indigenous / ethnic
majority in
It
is supportive to note that many of them do and those that have, indeed
give much added value to our society.
Unfortunately though,
for the
first time in our history, we face massive immigration. Inward
immigration to the United Kingdom is adding 430 a day to Britain`s
population - that is equivalent to the population of Birmingham every
five or six years. Illegal immigrants are additional to this and are
likely to bring the total addition to Britain`s population through
migration to at least 2 million every 10 years. This is causing the
country to be overcrowded and is changing the nature of our society. In
answer to this we need immediate firm and fair immigration control.
The
UK and Irish governments are
letting this slip and thereby are further providing opportunities for
extremist
elements to enter as well.
The radically reduced
but
measured and monitored legitimate and accepted
immigrants
and
asylum seekers into the UK and Ireland as well as the ones that are
already here from whenever (if they are to stay) must recognize and
respect the host
culture and the
modern existence of a very old and wonderful established heritage. A
progressive culture with of
course more work to do on themselves too. Indeed, as the indigenous
people and largest ethnic
group in these islands - we are a
tolerant, free and generous people who value `freedom of
speech` in
If some ethnic minorities cannot accept that and don`t want that, are
not
open to working with us and are not open to
integration then they should
leave immediately, be deported and removed from these shores or stay
away forthwith!
In truth, I believe
tolerance,
respect, integration
and change needs to be more global before this multiculturalism can
happen
in
this `created and forced`
diverse society we have. We cannot solely impose it, expect and demand
it to
happen within
the
over-crowded geographically and politically limited area of the United
Kingdom and
Ireland alone and some other countries elsewhere either. We are not the
world!
Focus should
be global and much broader and
immense
energy and resources
directed at that
now to create positive change especially at the extremist elements.
Tolerance and respect cannot be pushed
here in
these islands alone
with this forced political
correctness through this continued `spin` and this increased
authoritarian form
of social
regulation
that we have now in the United Kingdom in particular - 'your ideas are
your
own, so
do not dare tell anyone else who disagrees that they are wrong' (the
triumph of
sensitivity over truth) is treating symptoms rather than causes and is
really
upsetting many progressive and who were tolerant people within the
present passive and silent majority.
It is de-culturalising us! There
will be an almighty
`explosion` and it will have
terrible
consequences for us all!
The quickest way to force action is to compel
silence upon a subject that worries people, then like steam in a
pressure cooker, it is merely a matter of time before their suppressed
anxieties erupt into action.
The fundamental problem
is that
multiculturalism
inevitably fades
into a plea to be included in, rather than a demand for reform and
social
and spiritual transformation. Therefore
we are not addressing and changing the cause which is here amongst us
more than ever now but more
importantly is global. This lack of liberal rationale of the democratic
state subject
to the rule of law.
If this present trend
and focus doesn`t
change for the better with this forced political correctness, mass
migration in and continued positive discrimination (reverse racism)
here in the
UK and Ireland,
then we as the host culture in the interim have to cease being
passive about it and must peacefully protest. We can only start a
new healthy nationalism and new socio-cultural identity tempered by
wider
allegiances and with adequate
humility of course towards those of other nations and cultures. Our
national
identity has been weakened and confused, at the cost of a deep and
dangerous resentment! So in answer to this, we need a healthy pride
in and a re-kindling, re-assertion and preservation of
our own national
and
cultural values, roots and identity again with respect for others and with
positive reform and progression after that.
This would give us a sense
of forward-moving destiny and is necesary for our
own survival and development.
That being towards a rational construct
which raises no
truth claims
and abandons all claims to be in possession of certain fundamental
truth concerning the human being.
For simplicity here, by "nationalism" I
mean "national identity." Not racial, ethnic, or religious identity,
but rather one's attachment
to one's state or nation for its own sake.
Cultures are in fact
like
rivers, and
like life itself, they must evolve or die and it saddens me to
even consider that ours will indeed die
because there is no supported political and social cohesion now for us
and it
is not evolving
because of this `positive
discrimination` foisted upon us through this multiculturalism by the
establishment, multi-cultis and others and
whose new and imported cultures and religions to these islands it
refuses to judge. We are becoming "gray".
In the name of
multiculturalism, British history and British traditions in particular
have
been airbrushed out of British schools making our children feel ashamed
of their own history and culture which is really not right.
This
denigrates part of much of our great history and
unique culture. There is nothing amiss in respecting the legacy that
our common Anglo-Saxon-Celtic culture has given to the world.
I am not saying here either that they did no wrong, of course they did.
Hasn`t everyone? Regrettably, a
strong counter-cultural movement in Britain has become
so pronounced now that many people have bought into a distorted and
damaging view of
our
history.
In recent history alone - Britain in the 19th century can be considered
the educator of the world
- not a corner or a people did not benefit from the glow of western
civilisation and Anglo Saxon culture. Of course, Britain did not intend
to impose actual culture, just impose a moral framework such that
decent commerce could occur. Many primitive regions of the world have
long
been thankful for this.
By the 20th century, some nations had taken this lesson to heart so
much that they began to take over Britain in economic performance and
become teachers themselves - America and Japan are good examples of
this.
So it was that Britain selflessly undid its own status.
But just imagine for a moment what would have happened had Britain not
been so selfless with its knowledge. If Britain had adopted a more
protectionist attitude, the whole world would have suffered and we
would still be in the dark ages because the light of Britain's advance
into the Industrial Revolution and the modern world would not have
spread beyond the shores of Britain.
This strong counter-cultural movement now in Britain promises only one
end:
the death of the
British and possibly the Irish host cultures and our roots and national
identities
which
at this time in our development and for world evolution are a healthy
and important part of our meaning structure, our sense of identity, a
feeling of belonging to a place where we and our people before us were
born. (The Sacred Truth of the First Chakra - symbolically healthy
national identity does for the group what the immune system does for
the physical body). It is worth saying here that the Irish are seen to
be much more
proud of who they are and I respect this and hope it continues.
The English need to
develop more self-awareness. The apparent absence of introspection has
often been a pose and began as a reflection of the reality that the
British in their heyday did not need to assert their national identity
because it was already so pervasive. Good manners and common prudence
required that such power be cloaked in a degree of self-effacement.
This needs to stop and change now and they need to find their own new
identity.
This is the reason why the "young English" football fans riot and have
always traditionally had a proclivity for violence. They have lost - or
more accurately had been deprived of - a sufficiently compelling
British national identity, and they want to flaunt, in the way they
best knew how, a new identity under the Cross of St. George that they have made their own.
Who we were and who we are never goes away and we need to own and
maintain it and use
it as a basis to build upon towards a more
pluralist society, in co-operation with others. A sense of belonging to
a place is a sense of being
at home here, of being part of this place and no other.
Living in a
place where we are beginning to feel we do not belong is very
threatening to our meaning structure.
It would be the same for
everyone, everywhere
at this time in world evolution. The UK's treatment of the indigenous
cultures of mainland Great Britain is little short of a national
disgrace and an International embarassment, questionable under
international treaty.
We are only
judging ourselves through self-hatred and self-sacrifice and not others as it`s not `politically
correct` to do so! You
can`t treat racism with racism!
To be honest and
factual, Ireland and
the United
Kingdom are not a "multicultural
society", we are a monocultural society with some valuable ethnic
minority
cultures within these islands but some intolerant minority cultures are
rising at a
phenomenal rate adding in number to some of our own intolerant people.
To
be more correct, The United
Kingdom and Ireland are a "core-culture society". The term
"multicultural society" implies that the entirety of our society is
multicultural, which is far from the truth, and is a term used in
support of a political ideology. The term "core-cultural society" is a
far more accurate and truthful description of the British and Irish
Nations at this time.
Without reformative change toward this political multiculturalism and ideology, a moral vacuum, loss of freedom of speech, oppression, anger and rage, lack of co-operation, social stability grievously undermined and spiritual malaise will continue to be felt and get worse at every level of British life until we get our act together at home first now for self-preservation and future progression and encourage and maybe push others to get their acts together toward being open to change or get out / and or not to come here at all.
We cannot
continue to be de-culturalised and continue taking the initiative here
and the burden and loss with it on so many
levels regressing us into violent mediocrity and permanent decline. The facts should be
known, understood and debated and
we need to stop this by
peacefully objecting and saying
"No" and through the ballot box now!
Then
hopefully
when others take on their international, moral, ethical and spiritual
responsibility as well and this should
take many forms and transformations which we can help with, advise and
support - we can
then move forward together globally rather than nationally toward a new
shared universal vision over time. A vision of a global society as a
system of
fair co-operation and not on any substantial conception of the Good.
The real question we
need to ask
ourselves at home right now and at this particular time is why we
should value
diversity which is continually being said and shoved down our throat?
I criticise the outlook on which this diversity is currently based. There is
nothing good
in itself about diversity. Yes, it is important because it allows us to
compare
and contrast different values, beliefs and lifestyles, make value
judgements
upon
them, and decide which are better and which are worse. Not all cultures
are
equal.
The assumption of multiculturalism is that all cultures are equal and
deserve equal respect - is an idea that almost nobody actually believes
in, whatever their culture. I cannot imagine how it has become such an
article of faith;
perhaps this is because it is like religious belief -
an incoherent, implausible idea supported by little evidence.
It is
absurd to say that all cultural beliefs are equal when my belief maybe
directly opposed to yours.
I cannot respect yours while still respecting my own, and vice versa.
So, I believe like many that some diversities are deficiencies!
Yes, some cultures are dysfunctional
and some religions are primitive, superstitious, reactionary and
spirit-less. Some have a totalitarian ideology. Some are backward and
ignorant, patriarchal, oppressive, misogynistic, intolerant and sexist.
Many are homophobic and therefore terminally ill. Some are despicable
with ritualized forms of child abuse and body mutilation and violence
against women. We have a situation too with the extreme practice of
honour killings and
thus further violation of human rights. The moral basis of backward
societies! The
BBC (click here to
read) has just reported that police are re-examining more than 100
murders in England and Wales they suspect could be so-called honour
killings. Scotland Yard detectives are examining murder
files going back 10 years - 52 in the London area and 65 in other parts
of England and Wales where unfortunate women have been the victims.
Many religions and cultires wholly desecrate the sacred British and
Irish belief in the rights of women.
Many are cruel and inhumane to animals too. The religious scripts which
advocate killing animals in a certain way are years out of date.
Present day morality holds that animals should not suffer any more than
is necessary, either during their lives or as they are put to death.
Even the Farm Animal Welfare Council
(an independent advisory body established by the UK Government
in 1979) says it should be banned as
it causes severe suffering to animals. The law in these islands should
reflect
this morality. The right to believe in what you like does not carry
with it the right to inflict unnecessary suffering on others.
Many cultures and religions incite
violence and hatred and
should NOT be tolerated or institutionalized in our rational and
progressive society - that is my belief!
What do you believe or do you agree with having these dysfunctions and
barbarisms tolerated in the United Kingdom and Ireland?
I also advocate that the political sphere should stand outside the
realm of
religions and creeds, so that the state does not advantage or
disadvantage the members of any religious group.
A
rational society is a self-understanding, enlightened people
of a modern culture (it is 2004) where rationality is a person-centered
conception
of reasonable account and I`d like to think that the majority of
reasonable people
in Britain and Ireland of all cultures would welcome that.
In fact some characteristics of
specific culture
groups are
so very dangerous and indeed morally flawed!
It is worth saying here in the
context of the above that homosexuality and being a woman is something
that ONE IS, it is
not interpreted or essentially chosen. They are born, not made and
therefore a natural difference and they should be
accepted as they are with no apologies.
Infact they should be the ones
seeking an apology from so many! Intolerant
religions, totalitarian ideologies and dysfunctional cultures are not
OK with that. These intolerant religions, totalitarian ideologies and
dysfunctional cultures ARE
CONSCIOUS CHOICES taken or maintained by the individual and one can
change
them if they want to.
"There is neither slave nor free, there is neither male nor female, for you are all one in Christ Jesus." Galatians 3.28.
At a CONSCIOUS level, religion
originates in an attempt to
represent and order beliefs, feelings, imaginings and actions that
arise in response to direct experience or interpretations of the sacred
and the spiritual.
Hinduism teaches us that the "Self"
which dwells in each and every being in this universe is one and the
same with Godhead. Every soul in this universe is a reflection of this
Supreme Self. Thus every individual has the potential to realize
Godhead by the realization of this "Self". Realization of the "Self" is
possible only when someone is free to think on his/her own and act
accordingly. The most heinous and barbaric crime in this world would be
to stop an individual to think freely. Then when such a crime is
legalized in the form of culture and religion or tolerance of it
through political correctness and multiculturalism and
institutionalized in the United
Kingdom`s public sphere, one can easily imagine how disastrous it can
be.
The idea that these deficiencies and the British and Irish way of life
are compatible with these so called diversities is a fallacy, indeed
offensive and an outrage - spread only by the multicultural cultists
(multi-cultis)
themselves. In Britain and Ireland,
it should be a duty to offer a reasonable
account of a religious and cultural belief. This duty to offer a
reasonable account should require people to justify their own beliefs
to persons holding different religious or cultural beliefs or no
religious belief at all. Many of our valued and respected citizens are
atheists! This duty to offer reasonable account can be
fulfilled without subjecting religious faith totally to external
secular criteria and be judged in the light and on the grounds of
shared reason. Sadly some newcomers
don`t
want to integrate with the rest of British
and Irish society (their hosts) but often create their own areas as in
neo-colonising them and
are allowed to do so and are creating separatism (tribalism) and where
the rule of
law
does not
apply and where people have no allegiance to Britain or Ireland
whatsoever
and would not support a collective
and improved
new world vision either. With being here, many have no respect for our
culture or
our `freedom of
speech` and are not willing to adopt the British and Irish national
culture of tolerance and equality. One man described his
experience to me in a conversation using this analogy; "It`s like an
uninvited guest coming to your home where the law says you have
to take them in as a house guest and give them the guest room. Then
they lock themselves up in that room, refuse to converse and be civil
with you only criticize and call you names and sometimes worse -
threaten you. They then start changing the
room around and restructuring and re-decorating it to
their taste and demand all sorts of amenities and facilities which you
have to provide for them. They invite people of their choice to that
guest room who parade through your house and into the guest room and
the door is closed and you can`t object only smile. Then they want to
own that room and you have to change the
title deeds of your house to reflect that this room in your house is
not yours
anymore but theirs and the law says that is the case and if you object
to it or try to stop it you could go to jail. Then the door-bell goes
again and more uninvited guests arrive to occupy your lounge and the
same thing happens..." So many people feel like this! One cannot be
tolerant with intolerance and we should not be putting up with it or
importing it into these
islands! Confucianism: "By
nature men are pretty much alike; it is learning and
practice that set them apart." Analects 17.2. Indeed, the very thing
that is valuable about
diversity is
being open to rational critique through dialogue and debate, and the
making of such judgements and the clashes,
discussions, conflicts and improvements that it brings about through
correction of views - not just
`blind` acceptance and inert
tolerance and self-sacrifice by the British and Irish governments and
subsequently it`s peoples, it`s heritage and culture. This is a block
to
movement
forwards. Contemporary
multiculturalists, dysfunctional cultures, zealots, do-gooders and
the bleeding hearts and people with over-extended beliefs in their own
goodness,
the
muticulturalist mafia, cult
religions and fundamentalism fear dialogue and debate and
attempt
to suppress it in the name of 'tolerance' and 'respect' or label it
"racism", "phobias" and "isms" often because their own leadership is entrenched and
dependent on it. They scream the
loudest because they stand to lose the most - their power, money and
position, all funded by ordinary British and Irish taxpayers. Contemporary
multiculturalists and the bleeding hearts are
frightened of
the messiness of the world and it sure is `messy`and they can`t handle
debate where reality is explored. Others don`t
want change and have hidden agendas of course. They want everything
nicely
parcelled up, free of scrutiny, free of conflict, free of change, all
neat and ordered
and moving to what they want! Reality
cannot be ignored for ever. Such order can
only come
at the cost of democracy as it stands now and the
decline in social, ethical and spiritual advancement for us all and
this will surely result in chaos. We
are culture-bearing
and social beings, and subsequently transformative beings. We have the
capacity
for change, for progress, and for the creation of universal moral and
political
forms through reason, education, dialogue and debate but we cannot do
it
on our own nor should we and we cannot do it in the way we are trying
through mass inward immigration and appeal, de-culturalisation,
appeasement and
denial to the intolerant. This renders our continued functioning
impossible. Change
must be global and
until
it is moving in that renewed direction -
we have
to protect ourselves, our roots, our beliefs and our culture and all
the progress
we have made
and lived and died
for in the early 20th century. The rights that
democracies offer
individuals in the modern world are greater than ever before in
history. These rights have also been hard fought for by many people,
including slaves and bonded labourers, Africans and Europeans, Muslims
and Christians, Indigenous peoples and colonists, miners, builders,
labourers, teachers, doctors, lawyers and politicians, to name a few.
However, we need to move on now and these rights carry with them
responsibilities. It is the
common good that affords them their freedoms. As such, it is the
citizens' responsibility to contribute to the common good. It is also
the responsibility of citizens to protect these rights by understanding
them, and using them in a way such that the common good is enhanced. Being open to
rational critique through dialogue and debate then are the keys to combating intolerance,
for it is through dialogue and debate and the making
of value judgements that improvements can only come about and where rationality and reasonable
account prevails. As part of moving
forward apart from an immediate positive shift and change from the
Irish and British
governments if we get it or have to demand that they come to their
senses through peacefully protesting, I
believe that further on - all of the world's great
religions and philosophies in time could be mined for their spiritual
core as
part of this collective new world vision.
They could
contribute the foundation for a world view capable of uniting rather
than
dividing human beings. We need new discerning
leadership now who won`t continue to sell our heritage and freedom. A
leadership
with less of the `spin` and appeasement and with a
radical, pro-active
and
ethical approach to push forward
change through dialogue and debate
both at home
and abroad and not be afraid to
deal with the consequences whatever they may be. We also need a
positive vision with a
spirituality based on members of the same body in the community
of
humanity, a process through which to create a freer, more equal,
more
just
society, in which we can critically engage with diversity as lived
experience.
We need a spirituality that celebrates our common human origin and
joint
responsibility for our shared planet. We should accept nothing less! We
need a
spirituality for human culture
that welcomes
the pursuit of knowledge, reform and tolerance by ALL which are the
richest sources
of evolutionary adaptation and change. Tapping into the deep
wellsprings of renewal of the human spirit represented by faith and
hopes for a just and sustainable earth, where everyone at last come
into their own as partners in the human enterprise. Embracing a
philosophy of reason and individualism, a philosophy that makes life on
earth possible.
Surely the pursuit
of such a
vision is
far more honourable, respectful, correct and timely than is our popular
but
potentially dangerous allegiance to
not looking at ourselves. allowing ourselves to become "gray" and
avoiding to judge these new cultures and religions to these islands
and to an undefined
multiculturalism and
political
correctness! If you take Religious teachings and put them out in the wind and the
rain, soon the paper on which the words are printed will disintegrate
and the words will be gone. For those that have read this article
and sadly haven`t got the
points
- no I am NOT racist nor xenophobic nor ethnocentric and I am NOT
right-winged
politically nor left-winged, I am NOT a jingoist and have NO "ism"
either - just so you know. I hold humanist and moderate views
and
subsequently am quite the opposite of these and write this essay
expressing my
human thought within my civil liberty to do so and hope it will raise
discussion and debate. I am proud of my country's virtues
and eager to correct its
deficiencies; I also acknowledge the legitimate patriotism of other
countries, with their own specific virtues.
As this attempt expands in its formulation and elaboration, it becomes
a process that creates meaning for itself on a sustaining basis, in
terms of both its originating experiences and its own continuing
responses and IS a choice taken
or maintained by the individual.
I believe that a majority of the population doesn't want
religious interference in public life.
Many have been here for years and do not even speak English and they
don`t want to either. In fact
some
are very hostile to our culture
and others even seek to harm British and Irish people. Why are they here? Why are they allowed to
remain? These and other certain
behaviours cannot be
allowed to continue or be respected or
tolerated,
regardless of
whether or
not these involve customs sanctioned by culture and religion and then
subsequently
by
political correctness and then institutionalized in the United
Kingdom`s
public sphere.
It is totally unethical and would
disrespect and displace many other people`s (the ethnic majority`s and
valued others) own
rational, increasingly balanced views, our sense of identity, personal
freedoms and
improving spiritual
beliefs here and set
us back into the
dark
ages. We would experience a period of repression unseen in Britain and
Ireland since the Middle Ages.
It would be dire if political correctness prevented a debate on
multiculturalism in these islands.
It has already silenced us for years; the real shame would be if it
continued to do so.
As Lenin once said "I think we must stick the convict's badge on anyone
and everyone who tries to undermine Marxism ... even if we don't go
onto examining his case". This tactic has been cultivated to a fine art
by many in politics, media, education, special interest groups and
other areas of political activity particularly in the United Kingdom.
We need to raise that awareness again - our intrinsic values through
our spirit and
commitment to stand up for the things which we have always
carried nearest our hearts -- for democracy, our culture and heritage,
for freedom
of speech, for
the rights and
liberties of all, for peace and safety to all people and which are so
important
and so very necessary to a peaceful and free world which pioneered
and began an
integrative vision of humanity which was only starting after 1945. This
needs to continue and be built upon.
This does not mean people need to agree with one another at all times.
Rather it is a matter of finding suitable frameworks that allow debate
and then positive action leading us to a new universal vision to
enhance the
common good. As Gandhi said:
Honest disagreement is often a good sign of progress.
We need to move forwards not
backwards!
For instance; the Golden Rule of Confucius; the
Right
Way of the Buddha; the theological pluralism of ancient Hinduism; the
Classical
Greek concern for freedom and democracy; the Ten Commandments of the
Jews; the
Taoist focus on unity and interdependence within nature; Jesus'
teachings on
simple human kindness and love and respect for one's neighbours;
Mohammed's
emphasis on
honesty and social obligation; the work of Saints Jerome and Benedict;
Albert
Schweitzer's "reverence for life" and his concept of human
responsibility for the survival of that stream of life; the Ancient
Irish and Celtic
traditions too
which have been shaped by the natural world and are a celebration and
awareness
of the interconnection of everything around us and within us - the
divine manifest in all creation, and
in
particular
connects us to nature and the natural energies and cycles of the
earth. The earth is our temple, its plants and
creatures our partners and teachers. Respecting life, cherishing the
free will of sentient beings,
and accepting the sacredness of all creation. It is a
very fluid way of perceiving the world and empowers the individual to
develop
his own way of doing things.
This may well not please some immigrants and asylum-seekers and
significant others
and many
narrow and right-wing religions - many within our own culture too (you
know
who you are and we know who
you are: we meet you everyday, we see and hear you bleeting on the TV
and radio all the time, preaching and discriminating in your places of
worship, the media masters and writers in the media, in
our councils, schools, in far right-wing and left-wing politics and in
local and national government) but hey! -
this is OUR homeland and OUR future!
We have to stop being
their jumping jacks with them pulling the strings and we dancing.
The
government’s responsibility is the management of the affairs of a
democratic state
to the advantage of its people and protecting its citizens from
coercion by others. I don`t think they are doing their job!
Multiculturalism and positive discrimination are authoritarian,
anti-human outlooks. Multiculturlism means institutionalized division.
So, political progress requires not recognition but
action, not respect but
questioning, not an increased authoritarian form of social
regulation but the forging of common bonds and collective
struggles based on reason and not religion toward a positive global
vision.
Common bonds and collective struggles based on reason IS the wind and
the rain!
This free expression of my human thought is a necessary condition of
our society. It is essential for the pursuit of truth, for the
democratic political system. My free expression is defended by appeal
to the common good with my right as an individual to express my own
political and religious and philosophical beliefs. I want to be able to
express my deepest feelings and emotions, because these are essential
to my sense of who I am. If I had to repress
my most personal beliefs and feelings, my very identity is threatened.
Each of us wants the right to free expression as something vital to our
own life, and we respect the corresponding rights of others as a
condition of their respecting our rights. It is a principle of
equality: basic human rights are possessed by all human beings equally,
and respect for people’s right to express their ideas and beliefs is an
essential aspect of respect for all persons as equals.
I love all
culture
and traditions (none more so than my own) and respect religion that
empowers
the individual through a message of recovery, hope and healing rather
than through
illusion and ones that vilify others and disempower people through
socialization and
programming by a hierarchy of externally imposed power.
I urge immigrants to embrace their adopted nation's (Britain and
Ireland`s) liberal values of political tolerance, women's equality,
human liberty, be open to integration and to have much more respect
for the people and indigenous cultures of these islands. Not everything
is interchangeable; not everything is spiritually and morally
equivalent; not everything is equally tenable. This is the splendour of
truth!
I am a caring human being who is proud
of my heritage and I do care
passionately for my country (The Atlantic Archipelago) and
the world and
its peoples and who holds
a worry for us all for the future to which our leaders are
blind and
deaf and have let us down!
"May Spirit guide and give hope
to our people to go forward in
justice and freedom. Keep all nations under your care. May we a nation
create `reason` and peace amongst ourselves and develop common bonds
and be a
blessing to other
nations on the
earth. Help us elect trustworthy leaders and contribute to wise
decisions based on reason and the common good for the general welfare
of all here and
toward world peace".
